Sorry for the bad picture quality, but this year for our ward trunk or treat we went with an Alice in Wonderland Theme. We went with our own little interpretation of the white king and queen. It's amazing what one can do with a little bit of white spray paint, costume jewelry, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, a curtain rod, make up, and some white clothing!
It was a lot of fun and we even had a little game for the kids to play before they could get their candy. We ended up with quite the line of returnees who didn't even care about the candy and just wanted to keep playing the game. It was called "Off with your Head!" I got the idea from Making Merry Memories and her AMAZING Wonderland Party! They threw a ball at our little card man's head while yelling "Off with your head!" and had to knock it off. His head was a face attached to an empty container that I put on top of an upside down laundry basket.
For our trunk we of course needed to include a chess board. We made it with an old white sheet, two black plastic table clothes cut into squares and taped on with some black tape. The trunk itself was supposed to be the actual rabbit hole. If I had more time I would have added more "falling" cards, tea cups, a tea pot, and a pocket watch. The 3D Alice feet were one of my favorite parts. The book was also a fun little touch. I most definitely had a lot of fun making these decorations and really want to have a Wonderland themed party now so I could make the other decorations that I thought of but would have been crazy to try and cram it all into our trunk!
We also had Alice's Theme by Danny Elfman from the most recent Alice in Wonderland movie blasting from our car stereo because music makes everything cooler. I love the music and had no problems or complaints listening to it over and over again. (Unlike last year's "I am OZ!" from our Wizard)
If I were even cooler or had a little more time I would have made some cookies that said "eat me" to pass out. I guess our fun little themed car and costumes are starting to be expected because a few of the sisters in our ward started asking ahead of time what we had in store for this year. I have no idea how we'll be able to top this year's trunk next year (yikes)! It's kind of funny that our original idea this year was going to be a homecoming king and queen with a car float and we ended up with all of this!
All in all it was a successful and fun Trunk or Treat. Luckily we finished and cleaned everything up just in time for the tsunami warning! Luckily prayers were answered and by the time the waves reached us they were no longer a threat...
On that note, have a happy and safe Halloween!
